Dreamcloud Mattress Review

dreamcloud mattress review - SleepSharp

The Dreamcloud is taking the bed-in-a-box mattress business in a storm. This is a mattress that shouldn’t miss at the top of your list, especially if you are looking for a luxury hybrid akin to the ones you find in hotels.

The Dreamcloud is a 15 inches medium-firm hybrid bed that combines several mattress technologies. Its base layer consists of high-density polyfoam. The middle section consists of a combination of pocketed coils, latex transition layer, and memory foam. At the top, this tall mattress has a thick but soft hand-tufted euro pillow top that adds some comfort to its overall firm feel.

For this Dreamcloud mattress review, we’ll take you through the feature design of this hybrid from its cover to its base. We’ll also evaluate its performance on things that matter most when buying a mattress, including temperature neutrality, firmness feel, pressure relief, and durability. While we are still at it, we’ll also give you our opinion of who might like this mattress.

Dreamcloud brand at a glance

Dreamcloud is a relatively new online-based brand that debuted in 2017. According to one of its co-founders, Craig Schmeizer, the main goal of creating this brand was to offer the market an affordable mattress with full luxury experience by delivering it directly to the consumer.

True to their mission, the mattress review team at #sitename# notes that this model is relatively affordable for what it offers.

Note that the Dreamcloud mattress is made in China. We don’t think that there’s anything to worry about considering that all the foams are CertiPUR-US-certified. However, it’s essential that we mention it just in case you prefer a USA-made mattress.

Who do we recommend the Dreamcloud for?

  • Average weight to heavyweight individuals– although some petite users may still enjoy this mattress, we believe it will be a much better fit for people weighing above 130 lbs to over 230 lbs.
  • Combination sleepers– the Dreamcloud is a medium-firm bed that sits at 6.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale. With this firmness level, it will make an incredible match for stomach and back sleepers who generally require a firmer bed. Also, its pillow top and foam layers are quite forgiving. As such, heavyweight side sleepers who want a cooler bed will like it too.
  • Those who love memory foam but would want a bed without the stuck-in-bed feel– although the Dreamcloud has a layer of visco-elastic foam, it does not feel like a memory foam bed as it’s relatively firm.
  • Anyone who wants a bed that is easy to get in and out of- the fact that you don’t get stuck in this mattress coupled with its above-average response and strong edges make it fairly easy to move across the surface. This also makes it relatively easy to climb on and off the bed.

Dreamcloud Mattress Construction- Know why it’s different

Cover

The white top cover of this mattress is one of its most attractive components. This cover is a blend of cashmere goat wool and polyester. This combination gives you the hypoallergenic and durability aspects of polyester coupled with the breathable warmth attributes of cashmere wool.

An important thing to note in this Dreamcloud mattress review is that the bottom cover has a different material that primarily keeps the mattress from sliding around.

Comfort layer

The Dreamcloud has a sophisticated comfort system compared to what you might see in our other mattress reviews. The cashmere cover that we’ve talked about above encases a 1.5-inch euro pillow top. This top has a hand-tufted layer of polyfill that lets you experience the initial soft, cloud-like experience of this mattress.

Next, you’ll find a 0.5-inch of 1.5 PCF polyfoam that evenly shapes and supports the pillow top. It also creates the initial firm feeling of this mattress.

Below the poly foam, there is a 1.5-inch layer of 2.5 PCF gel-infused memory foam. This layer adds a little bit of squishiness and contour to the mattress besides helping in dissipating body heat to create a cool sleeping surface.

Transition layer

The transition layer of this mattress boasts a 2.5-inch block of 1.8 PCF supreme natural latex. Since latex is generally dense, it helps in minimizing the excess bounciness that you’d otherwise experience with an innerspring-only mattress. Also, it helps a lot in reducing the firm feeling of the coil support system.

Support layer

The Dreamcloud has 4 layers that make its support system. Beneath the latex transition layer, there’s a block of high-density memory foam followed by a super dense memory foam layer. These 2 further help in aligning your back while allowing a bit of compression, which helps in contour.

Next up comes, what is probably the critical component in this Dreamcloud mattress review: the coil system. The springs are 8 inches in height and give this mattress its incredible responsiveness and bounce. Importantly, these coils are individually-pocketed to minimize motion transfer across the bed. This could appeal to couples and people who share the bed. Also worth noting, this coil system has 5 zones that offer customized support to different parts of the body.

This layer adds a combination of bounce and support to the mattress besides eliminating the issue of sleeping hot. The foundation of this mattress is a block of high-density, soft memory foam.

What is the height of the Dreamcloud mattress?

The Dreamcloud mattress is 15 inches tall. If you have a room with a high ceiling, the towering profile of this mattress will create a sense of luxury and refinement. This tall bed will also help if you have back pain issues that make it hard to get up from a low-lying bed. However, keep in mind that this bed is much taller than the 12-inch height that most people tend to go with. As such, it may not be the best for some petite people and seniors.

How Firm does the Dreamcloud mattress feel?

Dreamcloud markets this model as a medium-firm bed and our mattress review team can’t agree more. It scores a 6.5 on our 1-10 soft-firm Likert scale.

Although this is a memory foam mattress, you may not even realize it as it does not have that characteristic sinking feel of viscoelastic beds. This means a couple of things. First, you’ll tend to sleep ON not IN the market. Consequently, this firmness eliminates the feeling of being stuck in the mud that plagues most memory foam beds.

Secondly, since this bed won’t be burying you, there won’t be cases of sleeping hot. This should interest most people who sleep hot.

Performance Ratings- Dreamcloud Mattress in Action

Next, in this Dreamcloud mattress review, let’s show you how this bed performs in aspects that matter when choosing the best hybrid mattress.

Temperature regulation

If you’re wondering, “Does Dreamcloud sleep hot?” The answer is NO. The issue with sleeping hot in memory foam is usually as a result of sleeping IN the mattress. Since you’ll be sleeping ON this bed instead, there will be less of the material hugging you. This means that there won’t be any heat buildup.

Motion isolation

Although this is an innerspring-based hybrid, its pillow top and thick comfort system do an excellent job of minimizing motion disturbance. You might still feel your partner or pet climbing ON and OFF the bed. However, this effect is significantly reduced compared to most innerspring and hybrid mattresses. On a scale of 1-10, we would rate it 8 on this aspect.

Noise

It’s common for spring-based mattresses, including most hybrids to make notable levels of noise, but that’s not the case with the Dreamcloud. It’s not hard to see why this mattress can perform so well in this aspect. First, remember that the springs, which are the potential sources of noise, are held between layers of foam. Secondly, this mattress uses sophisticated and independently encased coils different from the Bonnell coils that traditional beds use. Although there may be some squeaking and clunking from the spring system, the foam layers and pillow top suppress most of the noise.

Edge support

Edge support is one of Dreamcloud’s most significant assets. In most reviews on the manufacturer’s website, previous buyers report that they can use the entire surface of the bed even sleeping along the edge without the feeling of rolling off. Although singles don’t mind edge support so much, couples will find it very important. A strong edge also means that the mattress won’t sag easily for people who like sleeping on the side of the bed a lot.

Sex

The consensus is that the Dreamcloud hybrid is one of the best mattresses for sex. First, this mattress has a superb amount of bounce that helps in replicating the efforts of the active partner. Secondly, the fact that this mattress has excellent support throughout the surface and minimal contouring means that no one’s body parts will be sinking too far into the bed, thereby becoming immobile or inaccessible. Its responsiveness plus strong edge support also makes it possible to explore pretty much any sex position.

Pressure relief

The best mattresses for pressure relief allow you to sink slightly into the comfort layer besides conforming to your bones and joints. As a medium-firm mattress with a coil system, the Dreamcloud does not allow this. Therefore, we’d not recommend it if you have severely aching and painful joints.

On the other hand, this mattress is very supportive, especially for back and stomach sleepers and won’t cause any pressure points.

Off-gassing

After setting it up, this mattress will have quite a strong chemical odor coming from its foams. This is common in all synthetic foam mattresses, and the odor will disappear in the next few days. Although there are a few reviews that indicate the smell as strong, most people say that it wasn’t a big deal.

Durability

Although new in the market, we expect the Dreamcloud to hold up well for at least 7-8 years. Our mattress review team highlights its strong and individually encased coils as essential in minimizing the rate of sagging. Again, its medium to high-density foams are also going to take quite some years before they sag or create body indentations.

Dreamcloud Mattress vs. Your Weight and Sleeping Position

Light sleepers- less than 130 lbs

Just so you know, the heavier you are, the softer the mattress feels beneath you and vice versa. Most lightweight sleepers are going to find this mattress too firm since it has minimal give. Individuals in this group require a soft to medium-soft mattress that will contour to their body for comfort and support. Back and stomach sleepers who appreciate firmer beds may still find this mattress comfortable, though.

Average weight sleepers- 130 lbs to 230 lbs

Stomach and back sleepers in this category are going to like it a lot better than the lightweight group. This is because they will be able to squeeze out a significant amount of give from the comfort layers while benefiting from the reliable support system.

Most average weight side sleepers who prefer sleeping ON the mattress are also going to like it. However, some of them may feel like the mattress is pushing against their shoulder blade and hip joint a little bit more.

Heavyweight sleepers- above 230 lbs

In our opinion, Dreamcloud is ideally suited to individuals in this category. Regardless of the sleeping position, heavyweight people above 230 lbs are going to exert enough pressure on the comfort layers of this mattress for above-average sinkage. Importantly, the zoned coil system will come in handy to ensure that the sleeper gets a good balance of support and comfort where necessary.

Return and Refund Policy

Dreamcloud return policy is one of the strongest selling points of this mattress. While other mattress brands offer you a 100-night window to try their beds, Dreamcloud lets you try out their mattress for a full year. They say that the best way to determine whether a mattress is good or not is by testing it in all 4 seasons. However, this trial period starts 30 days after delivery to give your body enough time to try and adjust to the new mattress.

To begin the return process of your Dreamcloud mattress, you’ll need to contact the manufacturer via 1-855-976-4860 or email them at returns@dreamcloudsleep.com, and an agent will take you through the process. We’ve also found that engaging them using their web chat feature works.

Dreamcloud Mattress Warranty Analysis

Dreamcloud offers a lifetime warranty, which is among the strongest in the business. Within the first 10 years after purchase, the manufacturer will replace your mattress in case there exists a quality-related defect. After 10 years, it will be at Dreamcloud’s discretion to replace or repair the mattress.

Note that this lifetime warranty covers defects on materials and impressions deeper than 1.5 inches. Read more about how Dreamcloud mattress warranty works here.

Regular Complaints about Dreamcloud Mattress that we’ve come across

  • Mattress is too firm – If you weigh below 130 lbs, this mattress might not suit you, especially if you’re a strict side sleeper. Lightweight individuals prefer softer mattresses.
  • Not great for pressure relief – As a mattress that is slightly on the firmer end, the Dreamcloud does not offer the hug that is necessary for pressure relief. For this, you might want a mattress that is a little bit on the soft side.
  • Strong chemical smell  – Most Dreamcloud mattress reviews by current users affirm that it emits a strong odor when new. However, they report that most of this smell dissipates within the first few hours, and it’s entirely gone in 2-3 days.
  • Mattress not expanding to the intended height – The Dreamcloud comes compressed and rolled in a box. After removing it from the package, you’ll need to let it sit on a flat base for a few minutes to expand. On very few occasions, it may fail to rise to the intended 15 inches in height. In case this happens, the only solution is to contact the manufacturer.

Our Verdict

That’s it for this Dreamcloud mattress review. Overall, we are convinced that this is a reliable model for people who want to bring the hotel comfort at home. As a summary, this is a medium-firm mattress with a 6.5 score on our 10-point scale.

It makes a perfect choice for the average weight (130-230 lbs) and heavyweight folks (above 230 lbs) and will accommodate all sleeping positions. Besides its promise of durability, we like that it is supportive and sleeps on the cooler side.
